Timeshare is a group exhibition curated and organized by teh Figure One staff, featuring locally and nationally recognized artists. The selected artists represent a wide array of emerging and mid-career professionals whose work addresses themes of memory, image, and form. This unique showcase also reflects the diverse creative interests and influences of the Figure One staff, which is mostly comprised of graduate students and artists from teh School of Art + Design. PGSA Update 5/19/15

Is this the start of a new era? Will I post every day?? Probably not, but did I did think of one thing this morning I wanted to add.

Malcolm X Showing. Tickets only $5.00! It's Malcolm X's birthday and the art theater is celebrating it by screening Spike Lee's masterpiece. EDIT: Jason Patterson will be unable to make it tonight, due to illness.

MORE SOFTBALL!! We're playing the Goldy's/Bibbs Beers Team on Field 3. Be there to cheer us on! And in case you're curious, I have rejoined softball! And this game will be my 3rd this season which means I'm already better in attendance than I was last fall, hurray! Join us for Mug Night afterwards. Oh, and stay tuned for an update -- if it's rainy on Wednesday, we should know by 4 PM whether we're still playing or not.

PGSA Update 5/18/15

The mentor applications are out, and we already have a lot of interest from potential mentees. I didn't actually ask if I could put out a blog post about it, but I'm sure it's no problem; especially since no one reads this thing anyway JUST KIDDING!!! :P Anyway, have a lovely Monday getting back in the swing of things! PGSA Update 5/11/15

Long time no update! I'll probably be more active during the summer, but for now I'm focusing on finals. Here we go, getting back into the swing of things...

1) The Parkland Science Club is looking for a graduate student who is willing to come to a club meeting to present some information of their career. We often have guest speakers and it would be awesome if we could have a physics graduate student! The presentation would be less than an hour long and it doesn't have to be anything formal. We usually have speakers present a small PowerPoint slideshow that can include either or all of the following: how they got into their major,how another student can get into their major, their experiences in research, if they are doing a research program what is it about and/or what too recommend undergrad students to do. It is up to the speaker on what topics they would like to talk about as long it is related to the physics field. These talks are for students in Parkland College to learn about different fields that they are or could become interested in and for students to be exposed to graduate programs. We would like the speaker to present on September 8th or September 15th from 3-4 PM. Anyone that is interested should email grhart@illinois.edu.

2) A summer job opportunity

CTY offers challenging academic programs for highly talented elementary, middle, and high school students from across the country and around the world.CTY International, a division of CTY, has partnerships with institutions around the world to identify and provide services to talented students from partner countries. CTY International is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates to work in our summer program in 2015.

We are seeking and individual to teach a Principles of Engineering Design (EGRD) course. The EGRD course is designed to expose students to basic engineering concepts, principles, and activities. Students are expected to learn and then apply introductory engineering knowledge. The primary emphasis of the course is teaching students the engineering design process and applying the process in different scenarios.Special emphasis is placed on teaching students skills that real engineers use in their everyday lives. Science and engineering concepts are taught to accompany and enhance students’ ability to complete hands-on engineering projects.

Desired Qualifications: 

• Teaching experience in engineering or physics, preferably with children or adolescents 
• Graduate course work in Engineering or Physics with a GPA of 3.2 or better 
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills 
• Maturity, responsibility, flexibility, creativity, and cultural awareness 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experiences working as a physicist or engineer
• International experience living, studying, or working abroad 
• Experience teaching students who speak English as a second language 

Location:

• King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (July 18 to August 16) 

 Program Dates and Information:

• CTY International pays for direct travel to/from program
• Room and board are provided on campus 
• Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $2,400 to $3,000
